Hi all, this is not a question about direct technical details, but more of a conceptual problem, and I would love to have your input and ideas on this. I will be editing several edited volumes in my field (humanities, classics). From experience, I know that it's impossible to make scholars in the humanities adhere to standards. Each and every one of them will turn in a paper (most of them written in half a dozen different versions of Word) with its own idiosyncracies. At my last conference, I asked them to please use Unicode for their Greek passages, and I got blank looks and the question "What the hell is Unicode?" So: I want to extract the content of these papers and process it with ConTeXt. I thought the easiest route might be convert them to OpenOffice odt and then use the content.xml as a starting point. Since the formatting will be unusable anyways, it doesn't make sense to process the odt directly; instead, I want to transform the xml via xslt to a simplified format and then process that with ConTeXt. I have just discovered the tool xalan ( http://xml.apache.org/xalan-c/index.html ) which allows me to use an xslt style sheet and direct the output to a new file. I will then need to clean up these xml files and write a mkiv xml setup for them. So for those who know much more about this sort of workflow: does that make sense? Is there any better way to achieve these results, i.e., have the content of a couple of papers in Word and/or rtf format and typeset it in a consistent ConTeXt environment? Is there any tool better than xslt to convert the OpenOffice xml than xslt (anything in lua that can parse xml)? Anything better than xalan to convert xm -> xml? I'm just beginning to plan this, so I'd be most grateful for any pointers. Thanks for reading this long message, all best Thomas

Putting output in different dierectories

ConTeXt puts all generated files in the same directory as the sourcefile. Is it possible to put the PDF-file in its own directory en all the other generated files in another directory? -- Cecil Westerhof

ConTeXt for beginners translation

Hi, I am new to ConTeXt and, in order to learn a bit of it, I am intending to translate some documentation into French. I followed the link on the wiki and registered/dowloaded the source files for the ConTeXt beginner manual and the ConTeXt reference manual. Everything's ok but I have the following error trying to generate a PDF output with "make fr-print": ! Undefined control sequence. l.42 \secretsetup {setupheada} (This error also occurs if I test the compilation with make en-print.) I wandered around the files in the archive but I still have no idea how to fix this. I am running ConTeXt as shipped with TeXLive 2007. Thanks a lot for any help, -- Sébastien http://edilibre.net

Typing unicode

Hi, This is probably a really basic question already asked many times, but I wasn't able to find an answer. How to type an unicode character using its number? Searching for messages, I found things like: "2019 \char"2019 \char{"2019} \utfchar{"2019} but I wasn't able to get any of them to work. (I don't know for sure they actually should do what I want.) 'texexec --version' says: TeXExec | version 6.2.0 - 1997-2006 - PRAGMA ADE/POD Thanks, Maurício

one entry, multiple registers

Dear list, I'm part of a design group Open Source Publishing, and since a few months we are using various TeX related packages. After many trials and errors we were more than happy to come accross ConTeXt and it starts to grow on us :-) For the lay-out of a multi-lingual art publication we would like to include four registers. I've searched mailinglist, manuals and wiki but can't find how to add the same entry to *multiple* registers. How should I mark up 'carrots' to make it appear in Orange AND in Vegetable? Or is \Vegetable{carrots}\Orange{carrots}{carrots} really the best way? Catcodes for punctuation in MkIV

Hi, with the persian interface each character has now the catcode 11 and this cause a few problems in the input with puctuation, see below. \starttext »\CONTEXT« and »\CONTEXT’ interface« \stoptext The right quillemet and the apostrophe are treated as part of the \CONTEXT command and we should reset them (plus a few more) to catcode 12 in the format. Cyrillic in most simple way

Hi all, I just downloaded and setup latest context beta on my new machine.I made a simple script file for my teaching schedule in UTF-8 encoding and with %engine=luatex prefix. But.. the default font is LMRoman12, and it has no Cyrrilic letters. I need simple document and I don't care about fonts at all. how can I get Cyrillic in most simple way? (Without writing a typescript for Times New Roman.. oh, not again) Maybe there are some Cyrillic fonts/typescripts already shipped with context? Best, regards, Vyatcheslav

ConTeXt+ispell--> output with uncorrect words in overline red.

Hi, I'm amazing if it's possible to process, by some way, a text written in context for context overline in red the incorrect words (via ispell). Overline in red is any example. For example, we could \frame this words. How it could be done?, if it's. Xan. PS: Please, CCme.

Inverted exclamation / question marks

Hello, I am trying to write a text in Castillian and I don't get the inverted exclamation symbol right. I am using \language[es] \mainlanguage[es] in the preamble and I also tried playing with utf without success. Instead of ¡ and ¿ I get an "a" with a cedilla and a pound symbol, respectively Of course, I can use {!`} and {?`}, but I was wondering why I don't get these right using \language I have done my homework and have googled, yahoo'ed and even clustied hint? thanks, Pau
