Following the article "The luafication of TeX and Context" in the recent issue of the NTG-MAPS I tried the example given: mtxrun --script fonts and this should return the options list for this script. However, I get: 101 ~: mtxrun --script fonts cannot open : No such file or directory While otherwise a bare mtxrun returns info and thus was found as a runnable script: 102 ~: mtxrun MtxRun | version 1.0.2 - 2007+ - PRAGMA ADE / CONTEXT MtxRun | --script run an mtx script In my .bashrc I had the lua scripts in the path: 103 ~: echo $PATH ..:/usr/local/texlive/texmf-context/scripts/context/lua/:.. And I had called luatools --generate to make the database plus I made certain the script has execute permissions: /usr/local/texlive/texmf-context/scripts/context/lua/mtx-fonts.lua - rwxr-xr-x What is wrong or what I am doing wrong? Customizing layer stepping

Hi, how can I can change the stepper for PDF-Layers, the code from the presentation module 60 use InvokeStepper and makes with every step only the next layer visible but I want to hide also a few layers in certain steps. In my example in the steps one to seven the layer for each step should be shown but in the eight step layer eight should be visible and layer seven should be deactivated at the same time. Unusual TOC

Hi, I'm typesetting a book where prose and verse alternate in chapters, i.e., you have one chapter of prose, one of verse, one of prose etc. I would like to generate a TOC for that book, but chapters have no name or numbers. I was told by the author that the usual thing to do is to take the first few words of each chapter and use those in the index. I know how to do that using a few small tricks, but I would like to know if there's a standard way to do that. Are you aware of any? Thanks, Maurício

hi, just noticed that \startmode[*first] is ignored, if you use mtxrun. works ok with 'texexec --lua'. best wishes, peter

TeXLive 2008

Hi all, Hans, Taco, this is kind of a continuation of the thread about installers etc. I'm currently test-driving TeXLive 2008 and was wondering if we could make it a bit easier for new users to just try out ConTeXt. The binaries reside in <tl2008-directory>/2008/bin/<arch>; the installer gives the choice to put symlinks in system directories. Would it make sense to place some ConTeXt symlinks into the bin directory? For Unixoid systems, I am thinking of these: mtxrun -> ../../../2008/texmf-dist/scripts/context/lua/mtxrun.lua luatools -> ../../../2008/texmf-dist/scripts/context/lua/luatools.lua and maybe place the stub "context" into this bin directory as well. I don't know how this would work for widnoze. I'm thinking of a potential casual user who has just installed TeXLive and should be able to simply run a "Hello World" document by typing "context myfile." Does that make sense? Thomas

G'day. While designing the layout for a cookbook I have used "paragraphs in columns" to place the ingredients and body text next to each other. In order to add some commentary to the body I have been experimenting with footnotes, to place comments at the end of the recipe without getting in the flow of the steps. In any case I seem to have found a bug: when I add a footnote inside the paragraphs environment it retains the enclosing width -- even if placed outside the space where it is defined. The following file demonstrates the issue. I expected to have the footnote full width across the page but, as you will probably see, it is constrained to half the width -- just like the running text. --8<---------------cut here---------------start------------->8--- % demonstrate footnote width being crunched by paragraphs in columns \defineparagraphs[Para][n=2,rule=off,align=right] % left flush \starttext \startlocalfootnotes \startPara Hello, world. \nextPara This is some running text with a footnote, to demonstrate the way \footnote{This is a nice, long footnote which should spread text all the way across the page ... but doesn't, giving only the width of the enclosing block.} that the environment shrinks the footnote text flow. \stopPara \startPara I use multiple, consecutive paragraph environments ... \nextPara ... to lay out the ingredients for each step, and the steps sequentially, through the document. \stopPara \placelocalfootnotes \stoplocalfootnotes \stoptext --8<---------------cut here---------------end--------------->8--- I have ConTeXt from Ubuntu/Hardy, Texlive ConTeXt 2007.09.28-1, from the TeXlive 2007-13 packages supplied by the vendor. problem with layer: corner doesn't work

Hello, still working on the CD Design, I tried to understand the layer mechanism. After some reading and trying I have found a problem with the parameter 'corner'.
