spreading natural tables across the page

I'm trying to have my tables extend across the full (\textwidth) of the page. In LaTeX I was using tabular*, specifying a \textwidth for width, and with approp use of @{\extracolsep\fill}} bu am not having any success. Basically, in ConteXT I want odd columns to act as labels and be tight fitting but even cols to be the values an NOT be tight-fitting, within a page-wide table, ie some tight, some not. As well, I' d like not to be explicitly specifying column width. I saw examples using option=stretch somewhere but am not able to get my use of same happening. As well, I' d like not to be explicitly specifying column width. Could a kind person please point me to an example of this usage. Thanks. Makeindex and Context

I like the extended feature set of makeindex so I creatred my own little routine to use it with Context on a recent project. Here is the code: \newwrite\ind \immediate\openout\ind=book.idx \def\sidx#1{\write\ind{\\indexentry{#1}{\the\pageno}}} It works fine from the indexing point of view. But if the \sidx{} tag is embedded in a paragraph then some extra space is left where the tag existed in the paragraph. bookmark, underscore bug?

Hey all, I'm a new Context user, so forgive me if I do not have the standard formalities down... I have come across what I believe to be a bug with respect to filenames containing the underscore character '_' and the ability to generated pdf bookmarks (see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ Image:Acroread.png image if you're not sure what exactly the bookmarks are in a pdf format) If I use the simple example \setupinteraction[state=start] \placebookmarks[chapter,section,subsection] \setupinteractionscreen[option=bookmark] \starttext \chapter{One} \section{demo} \stoptext The file new-file.tex and newfile.tex work properly, but the file new_file.tex does not. I'll gladly ignore for now and just use all alphnumerical letters... but I'm a big underscore user (as one can see from my email address), and would like to keep going that route if possible. Any information would be appreciated! Love the Context showcase demos... hope to build some of my own. -Rick

Vertical text alignment in nested natural tables

Hi, I am having a problem using nested natural tables, to which I have a solution but feel that it my not be the proper approach. I'm pretty much a TeX and ConTeXt novice. The problem is that the row height it reduced when a table is nested, breaking vertical text alignment across cells. In my example the cells "SSSSS" and "Swap" to not align vertically due to the presence of the "p". I have an example of the problem and my fix below. I'm curious if someone knows a better way to fix this. math: \usemathcollection and \enablemathcollection

I'm quite lost with \usemathcollection and \enablemathcollection -- I checked the manual, the wiki, and the source browser, but without success for my problems. I just don't get how math font switching works for e.g. Lucida fonts, and why it does not for my fonts in my setup. So: What is the correct use of \usemathcollection and \enablemathcollection i.e. where should these appear (and where not)? Do I need \enablemathcollection at all? In my current setup (see below), I have two problems: ---- Major problem: I would like to switch my math fonts globally. Currently I have to apply \enablemathcollection e.g. after every \startcolumns (and after other environments as well), otherwise my math fonts are used, but not in the desired encoding, which results in wrong symbols shown. ---- Minor problem: I would like make sure that all math symbols do come from my math fonts and aren't taken from CM or other fonts. Is this possible? E.g. could I get an error message (or some special black box or the like in my pdf file) for each math control sequence which is not (yet) defined in my current mathcollection? --autopdf blues

Dear gang, In M$-Windows (and probably unix as well) Acrobat/Reader has the very irritating feature such that, if called from the command line, it forgets its last position and resizes itself to the default position, somewhere in the middle of the screen. This makes --autopdf useless if one wants (like me) to have Acrobat always open up in the same corner of my screen's real estate each time. WinEdt opens Acrobat properly but since I'm moving away from that (no unicode/bidi support) I tried automating things in batch files etc. After hours of struggle I finally learned that clicking on a shortcut to Acrobat/Reader works while running it from the command line will never work right... ...unless one activates the .LNK extension in the system control panel. See http://www.annoyances.org/exec/forum/winxp/1111214434?s Now --autopdf depends on pdfopen.exe, so I can't configure it apparently (tested pdfopen.exe directly). Can pdfopen.exe be recompiled so that it opens Adobe in the last-opened position like a lnk shortcut does? For what it's worth something like > "C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Desktop\Adobe Acrobat 7.0 > Professional.lnk" foo.pdf will work in a batch/make file in the meantime. But it would be nice if texexec -autopdf did the same thing. Any thoughts? Times as math font

Hello, Could someone be so kind to tell me why I cannot set Times as math font? Microsoft Word -> Context

Hello, My faculty receives papers in MS Word format. One poor computer literate lady is working very hard to typeset a journal of consistent quality from those papers. All work is performed in MS Word and I consider to suggest her to move to ConText (she don't have a slightest idea of it at the moment, by the way). I already have some fonts and header files to typeset math papers in Russian and I think I could setup all things for her and provide help if needed. Then, we need something like Word2ConText (or a macro written in VBA) to convert incoming papers to ConText code and then easily assemble them. Something, that resembles famous Word2Tex application. What can community say about the sensibility of my idea? And did anyone attempt to implement some conversion tool? Best regards, Vyatcheslav Yatskovsky

Section title font define

Hi all, I am going to write my thesis with ConTeXt. The problem is that our University wants chapter titles to be 18 points while body text is 11 points. I do not want to use \switchtobodyfont every time I type a chapter title, but I have no idea how to make it a style in the setup area. Any hints? Thanks a lot. Yous, Roy

Hi all, not really a question about specific code, but I need an idea: I have a fairly large bibliographical list which is generated from an even larger bibtex database. Now, I want to quote some of the items from this list on my slides, but I want to retain the original numbering in the list, like so: the list: [1] item A [2] item B [3] item C the slide: [2] item B [3] item C Can anyone suggest an approach for this? Or is this impossible with bibtex, and I have to typeset the slides manually? Thanks, and best Thomas
