Hi, The latest distribution has an experimental ruby kpse class in kpsefast.rb (expects updates -). As far as i can measure it's not slower than native kpse and once loaded in a ruby prog it's faster of than reinvoking kpse each time; it can (optionaly) dump the database in a home/temp path which halves loading time. I will probably use this mechanism in the coming texexec/texutil (maybe also in texmfstart). The associated variant of kpsewhich is 'tmftools' (no help yet). Apart from basic kpsewhich functionality it will harbor more tree tools. texmfstart tfmtools --analyze --root=/whatever/tex texmfstart tfmtools --analyze --root=/whatever/tex --trees=texmf,texmf-local can be very instructive on duplicate files on your machine and point you to problems. itemize + color question

Dear gang, This seems like a very easy one, but I can't figure it out: on my slides, I want numbered itemizations to appear item by item, and I want the previous items to be "greyed out." I think this can only be done by combining two itemize environments. This is what I tried: \setupitemize[1][n,packed,joinedup] \startitemize[color=darkgray] \item \color[darkgray]{one} \stopitemize \startitemize[color=white][continue] \item two \stopitemize But the switches color=something and continue seem to exclude each other: either I get a continued item numbered "2," but in grey, or I get a white item number "1". There must be some obvious mistake, but where? Thanks, and best Thomas

Why do size changes affect my math font?

Consider the following simple document, with is a minimalist version of the slides that I'm currently working on: \starttext The variables are $u$ and $p$. \stoptext This works fine; the text is in roman and the math in italics, just as I desire. However, I need a larger font for my slides, and thus I'm also using a font size command, like so: \starttext \tfc The variables are $u$ and $p$. \stoptext This causes the math to be in roman instead of italic. (It's not in "text font" per se; an \it after the \tfc will italicise the text but not the math, creating a quite odd effect.) Is there a reason for this? What's the cleanest way to fix it for all the various size commands? Thanks, - Brooks

A question on drawing functions in MetaFun

I tried to generate "Figure 9.2 An example of a graphic with labels along the axes." in metafun-p.pdf (p.209), but could get only graphics without labels. I used the codes in the page 208 as follows (see the attached file) \startMPpage StartPage ; ... codes in p.208 here ... StopPage ; \stopMPpage In this case, the generated MPS file (ch93-1-mpgraph.1) had the bounding box (0, 0, 420, 596). When I used \startuseMPgraphic instead of \startMPpage, the generated MPS file had the different bounding box (-47, -17, 300, 575), and I could see the right one. Please tell me what I missed. Problem installing ConTeXt jedit syntax mode

Hi, I've added the context jedit mode files to the modes directory inside my jedit settings directory, and appended the mode to the catalogue. I get XML validation errors that state the various DELEGATEs are invalid. The external files (*-en, *-de, etc...) do not import. Why? What am I doing wrong? Elliot

math functions

Hi, I would like to set the font used for math functions like \sin to be the body font. Of course, it should go for scriptsize when used in exponents. I tried without success to define \def\mfunction#1{{\tf\rm #1}} What is the conTeXt way to do this? Thanks for your help, Olivier

Greetings all & Adam, Having successfully installed Jenson & Minion Pro I've been trying to get Myriad Pro to install as a companion Sans (motivated in part by the fact that Adam has a nice typescript file for Warnock Pro with Myriad). I'm having some difficulties, which seem similar to difficulties I had earlier on…but apparently we finished our conversation off the list, so I can't locate what the solution was ;) (I believe it was "try updating to the latest version of LCDF from *EXPERIMENTAL*"). Before I display some error messages, I want to ask, Adam, why the Myriad Pro fontsynonyms in your typescript do not have any of the OpenType features—liga? kern? Is this due to Myriad Pro's particulars? [I've just checked, and it isn't only Myriad Pro that won't install.] I'm using Gerben's i-Installer, 2004 stable, ConTeXt updater, LCDF 2.26 (no longer in the "experimental" directory). I've also tried with the 2005 development set. The result is the same. \starttabulate vertical spacing

Hello! i want to put some space between lines in a tabulate environment. \starttext \starttabulate[|l|p(1cm)|] \NC Some Text \NC Other Text \NC\NR\HL \NC Some Text \NC Other Text \crlf\NC\NR \NC Some Text \NC Other Text \NC \stoptabulate \stoptext i did it with \crlf, but this is too much for me. \godown doesnt work either. Half of a line in space would be great. I tried that with starttable too, but the \HL command in tabulate works better. The text is aligned directly under the ends of the line. So i use tabulate. And the other problem is, crlf only works if tab is set to |p|. thanks! Christoph
