How to use and not embed the PdfBase14 fonts?

Hi all! I want to generate PDF documents that use the standard PDF fonts (Helvetica, Times-Roman, and Courier) and not to embed these fonts. With my former installation (TexLive-2003 and a ConText distribution of last autumn) this was possible by using the following lines in the praeambel: \usetypescript[adobekb][texnansi] \usetypescript[postscript][texnansi] \setupbodyfont[postscript,ss,13pt] (In addition, I had to configure pdfTeX by "updmap --setoption pdftexDownloadBase14 false"). After I upgraded to TexLive-2004 this does no longer work! I found that the typescript "adobekb" was replaced by "type-akb". Yet, the encoding "texnansi" seems no longer to be available (Metafont complains that it can not find: texnansi-utmr8a). Changing the encoding to "ec" that still is available yields: \usetypescript[type-akb][ec] \usetypescript[postscript][ec] \setupbodyfont[postscript,ss,13pt] Yet, using these lines in the praeambel results in a document that uses the NimbusSanL-Regu font, that clearly has to be embedded. Does anyone know how the standard PDF fonts can be used while not being embedded? Thanks for your attention, Stefan

texshow problem after update

Hello, texshow is no more working on my system after update. Russia (cyrillic letters)

Hello everybody. I am looking for a way of writing some home exercises in my Russian course in ConTeXt. However, so far I have not succeed with it. Should it work out of the box without installing any new fonts (I am having the fonts from a full install of TeXLive2003 now)? I have looked a bit in the source files for context, but with no luck. I guess there are different ways to achieve this, however, since I also want some swedish text in the same documents, the best would probably be if one of the following options worked: 1) Typing everything in utf8, and get the different languages automatically when compiling. 2) Typing everything with western letters, having some kind of \startrussia Boris \stoprussia and get Boris typeset with Cyrillic letters. Any tips/hints are welcome, Best regards, Micke P

Using capsule versoion of TeX from Pragma.

To help solve some other problems I disabled the path to my existing TeXLive distro, downloaded the minimal Linux-tex from Pragma, and unzipped it in /usr/local. Following TeXLive conventions I established a path to /usr/local/tex/texmf-linux/bin in /etc/profile and rebooted. The executables at the end of that path were not executable so I made them executable. (chmod 777 *) I also made the setuptex script in /usr/local/tex executable. Per the instructions in setuptex I ran the following: ./setuptex . #note period mktexlsr texexec --make --alone ----and got the following error message /usr/bin/env: ruby: No such file or directory at this point I thought I had best stop stumbling around and ask for help. Help: Context update problem

Hello folks, I ran into this strange problem today. First, I was trying to use Chinese in Context. After I generated those font files, it occurred to me that I might want to run: texexec --make. However, I got the following error message: C:\localtexmf\tex\context\base\font-uni.tex loading: context font macros / UNICODE Support system (E-TEX): [line 423] \protected ! Undefined control sequence. Naturally, I thought it might help by updating context again. But no luck. Still run into the same problem. The font-uni.tex file is untouched whatsoever. Does it have something to do with the Chinese font? Thanks a lot in advance!! Best, Fei

runaway argument context(mswintex)

Hi I have downloaded the minimal mswin distribution of context and set it up. I get a runaway argument once \tex\texmf-local/tex/context/base/spec-fdf.tex has been loaded, see below. Is this normal? Previously I had been trying to set up the current version of MiKTeX to work with context, this since the end of November. I had it working before but it ran out of capacity when imposing an 11000 word document -- not very impressive. Trying to improve things just broke it. I used MiKTeX because WinEdt answered my needs, however if I can get the pragma-ade minimal tex distribution working correctly is it possible to integrate WinEdt. pdfeTeX crashes

I have MikTeX still installed and I downloaded context/install/mswincontext.zip (6.12.04) as well (I compile ConTeXt sources with "F7" within scite). The latter started to behave strange just "in the middle of the black". I have a document with 30 sites and about 3MB (some high resolution images) which worked just fine until some point. After 10 minutes pdfeTeX started crashing (and asking if the problem should be reported to Microsoft). If I compile the same document under MikTeX, it works just fine (except that I can't use \setupbodyfont[phv,ss,14.4pt] command). If I compile the document in some other directory (with no images) it works as well. Even more strange: after removing font definitions (both \setupbodyfont[phv,ss,14.4pt] and \usetypescript[adobekb][texnansi] \usetypescript[times][texnansi] \setupbodyfont[times,ss] cause problems) I get some strange error reports (see below), which I have to skip with some unusual combinations of Ctrl-C and quit, but the file compiles without a crash. The problem was most probably caused by PNG images, exported from MS PowerPoint slides, an example is on http://pub.mojca.org/mailinglists/context/alpha.png. They look just fine in any viewer, but as soon as I remove them, everything works perfect again. It looks like a very strange bug. Any ideas? \starttables and \footnote

Hello, could someone help me with placing a footnote in a multipage-table?
