Hi: I am not able to run presentation styles correctly yet. I am not sure what make which "kpsewhich texmf.cnf". building formats under MikTeX

Hello All: When I run texexec --make to (re)build my formats (under MikTeX), texexec reports that it can't read TEX.POOL and MP.POOL . Then a window's dialog box reports that pdfetex has crapped out. Any any ideas? Thanks and best wishes, Matt

Presentations with Metapost

Hi: I am trying to generate presentations using the six styles describing in art-pres.pdf doc by Hans Hagen. I had not problems with the original style but yes with the others styles. I suspect that something about metapost configuration is failing. In the section called Running METAPOST of the cited doc I can read something about two documents: 1) cont-sys.tex: I have not this file. I believe that I have that rename the cont-sys.rme file as cont-sys.tex, but in which directory I must to copy cont-sys.tex file? 2) textmf.cnf: I had not be able to find it. Referencing another document

Guys, I have been searching for how to specify another document (.pdf) to open from the source document. The only method I have found is using \useURL etc. which bring up the web browser as an intermediate step. Please con somebody direct me to the correct method. TIA -- Nigel

A pretty good day

All, Well today I made some progress with texfont.pl. After getting my Lucida fonts to work I decided to tackle: http://www.pragma-ade.com:8080/context/Members/willi/My%20Way/NaturalTables. tex Got my Palatino fonts installed and working, even the slanted ones! :-) Found that I need pixfonts, which I updated using the Miktex package manager. Then I set texfont to work on these pixfonts. I am just about there, but hung up on the last little bit. In trying to compile NaturalTables.tex with: texexec --pdf --mode=MyWay NaturalTables.tex I get this warning at the end of my log file. Warning: PDFETEX (file rpxmi): Font rpxmi at 600 not found Warning: PDFETEX (file pxsy): Font pxsy at 600 not found {8r.enc}<uplr8a.pfb><uplb8a.pfb> <f:\localtexmf\fonts\pk\ljfour\jknappen\ec\dpi 645\ectt1000.pk><uplr8a.pfb> Output written on NaturalTables.pdf (10 pages, 138726 bytes). Opening the PDF file leads to problems. The first page loads OK, but paging down I get: 1. There was an error processing a page. There was a problem reading this document(14). 2. Could not find a font in the Resources directory--using Helvetica instead. 3. There was a problem reading the document. Examining the fonts in the pdf file shows: URWPalladioL-Roma F104 URWPalladioL-Bold Helvetica So, some sort of font substitution seems to have occurred. Any help or suggestions coming my would be appreciated.

texfont and type-tmf.dat

Hi: When I run texfont as follows: texfont --en=texnansi --fontroot=/usr/share/texmf/fonts /usr/share/context/data/type-tmf.dat texfont reports "unknown subpath ../fonts/afm/urw/[font name]" for each font listed in type-tmf.dat. Where should the fonts be found? Thanks, Matt

beginner's hazzles with backgrounds and definitions.

Hi, I am new to context, migrating from latex for the purpose of writing an online book. I would like to set up a few definitions in the environment file that would replace latex's \begin{definition} ... \end{definition} environments. I realize that this can be done conveniently with \defineenumeration, but I want of course a few more features in it then in latex's setup. For example, I'd like to have the definition typeset in some color against some background. I tried the following in the environment file: \setupcolors[state=start] \definetextbackground [defbackground] [backgroundcolor=blue, backgroundoffset=.25cm, offset=.25cm, frame=off, location=paragraph, color=green] \defineenumeration [definition] [text=Definition, location=left, before={\starttextbackground[defbackground]}, after={\stoptextbackground}, letter=it] Then, in the text, when I use \startdefinition This is my definition. \stopdefinition the text comes out green all right, but the blue background is smeared all over two pages. I have tried a few modifications to no avail, so I fear I am doing it all wrong. Curiously, when I typeset the above th first time, I only get the green text (no blue), and the mess shows only up when typesetting the second time. Any help? Thanks, Matthias
