XML error reporting

Hello Hans, the lua XML parser works nice: no errors are tolerated at all, so the following example: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?> <story> <windows>my secret</mouse> </story> will fail with a friendly message, but it would be really helpful if one would know at which line in the source file the error has happened to help debugging. Btw: \xmlprocess doesn't complain if the file is not found. I spent quite some time trying to figure out what I did wrong in the definitions again, only to figure out that the file had been saved under a different location :( None of this is high-priority, but only "would-be-nice-to-have-in-distant-future" request. setting up context/luatex, luatex caches

Hi all! Before uploading context 2007.09.28 I want to straigthen some things out wrt luatex etc, the least is that I want to add a README so that users can set up context/luatex themselves. Now my questions: - Is it possible to have MORE THAN ONE luatex cache directory? Something like TEXMFCACHE=/var/lib/texmf/systexmf-cache;$HOME/.texmf-var/texmfcache such that /v/l/t/systexmf-cache contains the cached trees for the system trees (/usr/share/texmf{,-texlive}, ...) $HOME/.texmf-var/texmfcache contains the cache of the users home directory texmf tree - Is it possible to tell luatools to update only some (or only one) texmf tree? Something like luatools --generate /usr/share/texmf-texlive ? - Is there an obvious objection to replace luatex binary with a script which contains the necessary TEXMFCNF settings, something like if [ -z "$TEXMFCNF" ] ; then TEXMFCNF=/usr/share/texmf/web2c export TEXMFCNF fi luatex.bin $* ? Reason: First is that we know where the texmf.cnf is and we don't have to urge the user to set the env var. Furthermore a user CAN override the TEXMFCNF settings if he wants to. Hi, Not sure if you caught up with this yet, but Hans released a new 'current' context today. I have no time to write the release notes page today, but I believe the bulk of changes is: * a new lua lpeg-based xml and xpath parser for mkiv * a number of xetex-related fixes and changes (mostly initialized by Mojca) More tomorrow. is symb-glm still needed?

Hello Hans, I figured out where spurious loading of lm-ec and lm-texnansi in XeTeX comes from. One is comming from symb-glm.tex. But, when looking at it, it seems to me that it's not even needed any more, since \leftguillemot, \rightguillemot, \guilsingleleft and \guilsingleright are defined in encodings. Esp if I'm reading the comments: "but was also one of the reasons for triggering the lm project" The only possible side effect could be the ability to use \symbol[xleftguillemot] or even more obscure usage: calling font "Guil" directly. But I doubt that anyone uses it that way, esp. since it depends on LM, and people could use any other font (it looks to me it was used the other way round, when no guilemots existed in cmr). Is it possible to supress loading of that file, at least for XeTeX where it's of no use, or at least rewriting it in some sensible way? lm-texnansi comes from meta-tex.tex. Any chance to change that piece of code, so that that font won't be needed any more (I have always wondered what that definition in meta-tex is used for)? \truefontname inside NEWTEX in font-ini seems to deliver names suitable for luaTeX, but not for XeTeX. binaries in context minimals

Hello, I took the list of binaries from texmf-macosx/bin. I'm trying to set some semi-automatic process to fetch them (well, to add them to a repository on the garden, http://minimals.contextgarden.net/) I've split the binaries into different groups. \buildtextaccent in LuaTeX

Hello Hans, as far as I remember this used to work once back in May in LuaTeX (because I was able to fake cacute in a font which didn't have it; however it never worked in XeTeX): \definefontsynonym[bla][Iwona-Regular] \definedfont[bla] \mainlanguage[sl] \starttext čšž (\textcaron)(\textacute)\crlf \quotation{this} is {\buildtextaccent\textacute c}\crlf \quotation{this} is {\buildtextaccent\textcaron c}\crlf \stoptext Now the characters don't compose any more. What's even more interesting, it fails badly with XeTeX, where most characters are simply blank. And even more interesting - watch the different guillemots when using LuaTeX and XeTeX. Even more interesting, if you use \definefontsynonym[bla][Iwona-Regular][encoding=uc] one gets different guillemots (it might be that they're taken from LM instead of Iwona when there is no [encoding=uc] present). XeTeX and font-selection problems

Hello Hans, There's something weird going on during XeTeX's font selection: fonts : fails 1a: "lmroman12-regular:script=latn;language=dflt;+liga; +kern;mapping=tex-text;mapping=tex-text;" (nullfont) fonts : succeeds 1b: "[lmroman12-regular]:script=latn;language=dflt;+ liga;+kern;mapping=tex-text;mapping=tex-text;" ("[lmroman12-regular]:script=lat n;language=dflt;+liga;+kern;mapping=tex-text;mapping=tex-text;") fonts : fails 1a: "rm-lmr7" (nullfont) fonts : fails 1b: "[rm-lmr7]" (nullfont) fonts : fails 1a: "rm-lmr9" (nullfont) fonts : fails 1b: "[rm-lmr9]" (nullfont) which then results in systems : end file smalltest at line 13 ) stdin -> smalltest.pdf [1] ** WARNING ** Invalid CMap ** ERROR ** pdf_ref_obj(): passed invalid object. Output file removed. Output written on smalltest.pdf (1 page). Transcript written on smalltest.log. TeXExec | runtime: 10.645827 (Well, "errare humanum est: "I would understand that ConTeXt generates an error from time to time, but not that it's lying about it with "Output written on smalltest.pdf" :) It is possible, that the new version of XeTeX solves that problem (Jonathan promised to look into the problems you complained about some time ago), but I still use the version from TeX Live at the moment. It might make sense to try yet the third option without any quotes around, and generate the error if font doen't exist. Is there any chance to remove blank lines between font tests? write18, XeTeX and metapost not running

Hello Hans, one weird question: after the question has been posted to the mailing list, I tried to run \starttext \startMPcode draw fullcircle scaled 3cm; \stopMPcode x \stoptext on the garden. That works OK with pdfTeX, but doesn't work with XeTeX. I have checked that locally on my machine. I did the following: - I have set shell_escape = f in texmf.cnf - I comment out the two lines in cont-sys.tex: % \runMPgraphicstrue % \runMPTEXgraphicstrue "texexec bla" now creates bla-mpgraph.1, while "texexec --xtx bla" doesn't. It has already been uploaded to Debian but has to go through the NEW queue (which usually takes some time). Sorry NO etch version for now for luatex, I have to adapt the poppler patch first. I run several documents with the new context and it worked. Please report your success/failure to me, thanks a lot. Especially one with a bit of experience could test luatex/context combination, that would be great.
