updated Ubuntu edgy texlive+context backports

I just updated the Ubuntu edgy backports of the texlive packages (for i386) and have been running them on my feisty laptop for half a day. The 'context' package provides version 2007.04.17 12:51. They are recompilations of the latest Ubuntu gutsy (7.10) packages, which are Norbert's latest Debian packages with a couple additions. Let me know if you have problems. To use the packages, add these lines to your /etc/apt/sources.list : deb http://web.mit.edu/download/sanjoy/texlive-backports/ edgy/ deb-src http://web.mit.edu/download/sanjoy/texlive-backports/ edgy/ Then apt-get update apt-get install cm-super texlive-fonts-recommended \ context context-nonfree context-doc-nonfree ('cm-super comes from the universe repositories) Sorry, no dapper (6.06) backports yet! A few tricky package-version obstacles remain. -Sanjoy

Nested sections should be implemented in a module and shipped with the main files. Look in the attachment for a example, I wrote a few weeks ago. What we need is a specification what is needed (reporting for opening and closing sections in the log file) and support by Hans to include the macros. We should also collect other macros, that need a start/stop pair and provide patches how they can be integrated (can be done in the wiki). Wolfgang

\startsection ...\stopsection alias for \section?

Hi, would it make sense to have, in addtion to e.g. \section a start..stop pair? such as \startsection{my section name} \stopsection with something like \let\startsection\section \let\stopsection\relax This way the text would be slightly more structured. Some math improvements

Hi Hans and Taco, I am attaching the math enhancements that I have been promising for about for some days^H^H^H^Hweeks now. Here are the changes. 1. Improved \llap, \rlap, \clap that work in both math and text mode (Taco's code) 2. A \cramped macro to go into cramped mode (based on Knuth's code) 3. \crampedllap \crampedrlap, \crampedclap for the equivalents to \llap etc which typesets its contents in cramped mode (well, I kinda figured that out on my own :) 4. An improved substack macro, with improved spacing. (Based on amsmath's substack macro). Taco, does it make sense to surround substack with a group, which will save some typing \sum_startsubstack whatever \stopsubstack or are there any side effects? In the code, I do not have the extra group. 5. Definitions for iint, iiint, iiiint (for those who can't count i's like me, you can use \repeatintegral{1}, \repeatintegral{2}, etc. Maybe, we should have the more readable \doubleintegral, \tripeintegral, \quadintegral also). This is based on amsmath code, and tries to use correct spacing for \iint\limits_{....}. BTW, does anyone wish that the limits with \int were configurable rather than defaulting to \nolimits? amsmath provides this feature, but I have personally never seen it being used. It is not too difficult to implement. 6. A definition for splitfrac, which is useful for multi-line fractions. Based on Michael Downes' code. .... I also had something for \intertext, but realized that \intertext does not honor indentations. I will look into that first, before posting the code. Now, I need to do collect everthing for theorems. Hopefully, core-des has not changed since I started working on it... Aditya

yet another font installer

Hi, I have just uploaded yet another font installer, similar to texfont, but only for opentype fonts and a bit limited. I never felt like reading the texfont manual, so I created my own frontend for the lcdf type tools. It works very well for me, so you might be interested. Hello Hans, what has happend to \externalfigure[a] in XeTeX? With \externalfigure[a] I now get ! Unable to load picture or PDF file './a.png}'. Thanks, Mojca

mailarchive 2007?

Hello everybody, anyone out there has a correct/full archive of the ntg-context mailinglist 2007 upto now? The one on <http://www.ntg.nl/pipermail/ntg-context/> has all '@' replaced by ' at ' which makes it hard to use for the mailinglist archive at contextgarden.net. While moving the archive to the new server, I have found out that because of a stupid misconfiguration the server didn't save the mails to the disk. Patrick
