It really doesn't hurt if we define two languages nb and nn (such as there are multiple languages for Czech/Slovak, Croatian/Bosnian/Serbian), and "remove" no, in the sense that no can be left as a synonym to nb only. System fonts and name access

Hi, with MkIV it is possible to use fonts in system directories (C:\windows\fonts etc.) but this works only if you use the file name of the font and not with the font name. The reason for this is a bug in font-syn.lua in the 'fonts.names.getpaths' function which is called from 'font.name.identify' to extract the name information from the fonts. Another problem are fonts with file extension in uppercase letters, none of then is read when I generate the font database, can we add 'TTF' and 'TTC' to 'fonts.names.filters.list' in font-syn.lua. Metapost beta 1.091 release

Hi all, Following yesterday's beta release there were immediately a few serious bugs reported (thank you, testers) so it made sense to do a new beta release a.s.a.p. Luatex beta 0.29.0 released

Hi all, I have just uploaded the archives for luatex 0.29.0, another intermediate release leading up to TUG 2008. This release matches SVN revision #1450. (In case someone notices: yes, I forgot to update CHANGES) New features: * The embedded pdftex is now 1.40.9 (forthcoming) except for the following: - the png transparancy fix is skipped because it is in conflict with a macro-based solution offered by context mkiv. - LFS (PDF files > 2GiB) is not working yet. - Synctex is still missing * libpng, xpdf, and zlib are updated to their pdftex 1.0.9 levels * MPlib is updated to 1.090 * The syntax of buildpage_filter is changed to avoid confusion (and crashes). See the manual for the new calling convention. Bugs fixed compared to 0.28.0: * The previous bugfix for \languages skipping numbers was wrong. * Various compile-time warnings are suppressed * \pdfsetmatrix was broken * \pdfsave and \pdfrestore were broken * Valid user_defined whatsits nevertheless were generating errors. Texlive 2008 and luatools

Hi, Texlive 2008 works perfectly with Context, but I have one question regarding luatools. I am posting this here rather than on TL mailing list, since I do not want to cause more confusion on TL regarding ConTeXt. In the bin directory in minimals, luatools is a copy of luatools.lua. This means that one does not need ruby in order to run luatools. It also means that whenver you upgrade your system, you need to run luatools --selfupdate. In TL2008, luatools is a wrapper script. #!/bin/sh texmfstart luatools.lua "$@" This means that you need to have ruby in order to run luatools. The advantage is that you do not need to run luatools --selfupdate. In terms of speed, there is a slight disadvantage, you first start ruby, and then start texlua. Using a wrapper script was suggested by Taco on the mailing list. If TL is to use a wrapper scipt, why not simply #!/bin/sh mtxrun --script luatools "$@" this will mean that you do not start ruby before moving to lua. In both cases, one has to do mtxrun --selfupdate after a update that changes mtxrun. This is not really important, since luatools will be run rarely. Do you think that the current texmfstart wrapper should be changed to a mtxrun wrapper? Aditya

texexec --listing --dvipdfmx don't work together

Meaning that with --listing the output is generated with pdftex, and not with dvipdfmx. MPlib beta 1.085

Hi all, I have just released the archive files for MPlib beta 1.085. At the moment, the archives contain only the mpost program sources and executables. The final release will of course also contain the MetaPost 'base' texmf support files and the already existing manuals as well as a new manual documenting the C API of the library. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- What is new in this beta release: * Determination of the mem name to use in non-ini mode is now much closer to the web2c approach. * There is now a magic word in the beginning of the mem file to make sure it is written by the correct version of MPlib. * Fixed the disappearing comment sign in the to-be-typeset document created by the mpx generation subsystem. * Various identifiers have been renamed to avoid clashes (that prevented the source from building correctly on many platforms) * A great many small changes and fixes have been added after running splint on the generated C source. ----------------------------------------------------------------- For those of you who are not aware of the project yet: MPlib is the name of the new, revamped version of the MetaPost interpreter. It is implemented in Cweb, and internally consists of a core library, an mpx generation library, and a frontend driver program (mpost). The new mpx generation library includes the label generation functionality that was previously provided by 'makempx', and this internal code will be used instead of that external program unless the MPXCOMMAND variable is set in the environment or texmf.cnf. The programs 'makempx', 'newer', 'mpto', 'dvitomp' and 'dmp' are obsolete and are no longer included in the distribution. The MPlib distribution is released under the GPL version 2 or, at your option, any later version. This beta release of MPlib that can replace the old pascal-based metapost interpreter completely; the executable is almost a drop-in replacement for MetaPost 1.005. The commandline is slightly different and you have to regenerate the mem files, but that should be the only user-visible change. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- The TODO list before the official announcement at TUG2008 in Cork now only has two items left: * Writing the documentation for the C API * Bughunting I'll be working on the first item myself, but for the second item I really have to ask all of you for help: please test mplib on as many files as you can find.
