Luatex 0.74.0 announcement

Hi, I have just uploaded the archives for a new luatex release, 0.74.0. Most noticeable changes: * Lua 5.2 There are no patches to the core Lua files; a future version of luatex will switch to loading the regular lua 5.2 dynamic library instead of depending on a statically compiled one. NOTE: This change can break some of your lua files, as the language has changed a little between versions 5.1 and 5.2 * A bleeding-edge version of luasocket is included, as there is no 5.2-compatible official release yet. * A new lua extension is the two-argument version of string.dump from Luajit: string.dump(function f, [boolean strip]) * Included mpost 1.780 * The implied existence of the following Lua libraries is now deprecated: debug, unicode.*, luazip, lfs, lpeg, zlib, gzip, md5, socket.*, profiler, epdf, fontloader, mplib, and pdfscanner. Future versions of luatex will load these modules on demand from dynamic libraries. We are happy to announce a new test release of MetaPost: ---------------------------------------------------------------------- MetaPost 1.780 ---------------------------------------------------------------------- This is a second test release for the new functionality planned in MetaPost 1.800. This version will not be uploaded to CTAN / TLcontrib yet. The plan is to wait for a few weeks before releasing 1.800. That will then be an official end-user release. Bugs in the current version are still likely, so use with care! The standalone distribution package and a win32 binary can be downloaded immediately from http://foundry.supelec.fr/gf/project/metapost/ ---------------------------------------------------------------------- What is new in MetaPost version 1.780: ---------------------------------------------------------------------- * The turningnumber calculation in 1.770 was bugged. * The picture export in 1.770 forgot to add trailing zeroes to the log and term output channel resulting in rubbish output. * The arguments of the PS "dtransform" operator have been fixed (was wrong since 1.750). * The warning limit in numbersystem=double mode is now exactly 2**52. * A bunch of obvious memory leaks fixed. external pdf references

Hi Hans, You know we at Docwolves do lots of stuff with \externalfigure[extern.pdf][interaction=yes] right? That sometimes produces errors. Some of those are hard to send back to you because the PDFs tend to be confidential, but there are two cases where valid but unexpected external references wreak havoc that are easy to explain and report: The first is: mailto:"someone(a)gmail.com" (with embedded " symbols). Resulting in ) expected near 'someone' error from lua, and it required us to patch context like so: \def\doifreferencefoundelse#1#2#3% {\ctxcommand {doifelsereference("\referenceprefix ",[[#1]], % "#1" \luaconditional \highlighthyperlinks , \luaconditional \gotonewwindow )} {\expandtexincurrentreference #2}{#3}} The second was a variation of: C:\TEMP\FILE.PDF (I forgot the real example). This of course results in Undefined control sequence: \\TEMP from luatex, and it required an extra line in link_uri in lpdf-epa.lua: local function link_uri(x,y,w,h,document,annotation) local url = annotation.A.URI url = string.gsub(url,"\\","/") -- TH Don't want backslashes here if url then add_link(x,y,w,h,format("url(%s)",url),"url") end end For the other bugs (which are ones where I often doubt whether the external pdf was even correct in the first place) I am attaching my versions of lpdf-epa.lua and lpdf-epd.lua for you to compare with your version. Unfortunately, we are using "2012.06.20 20:43", so that may be too old to help much. But you can grep for TH in the source and perhaps get some inspiration ;) Best wishes, Taco

Associated with this, there are new internals "hppp" and "vppp", that are used by the bitmap backend to decide on the scale of the generated bitmap. Default value for both new internals is "1.0", i.e. one pixel per Metapost point. * On the command line, adding --numbersystem="double" switches to double precision floating point internal numerical values instead of the traditional scaled point. There is also an identically named new read-only internal to query the current setting. The possible return values for that are currently "scaled" and "double". With "double" in effect, numerical values can be expressed in scientific notation including exponent, e.g.: a = 23.5E71; and the warning limit (traditionally 4096.0) has been extended to allow for the greater range. * The C API has been extended to allow path control point resolution without going through the Metapost input language, see manual/mplibapi.tex for details. * The C API has been extended with a "math_mode" switch in the options structure, and the memory size options as well as "ini_mode" have been removed (the MPlib instance now always starts up in inimp mode) * The code for picture shipout now uses "double" for all floating point values. This can give small differences in the actual output files in traditional mode due to the required scaled -> double conversion, but was necessary to support the new numerical backend code. * The Lua API internals have been updated to reflect the C API changes. * All known crashes in earlier versions of Metapost have been fixed.
