Since I am currently using Context/MKII (Installed via the TexLive 2008 distribution) for my documents, your solution would provide even me with a fairly simple method to use the current minimals installation and to try out MKIV. Even switching between "Context-2009-06-11-beta", "gwTeX" and "TeXLive-2008" by using the TeX Distribution system preference panel works. A Testdocument works with "TeXLive-2008" (texexec produktvorschlag.tex) as well as with your installation "Context-2009-06-11-beta" (context produktvorschlag.tex) Another Question though: ------------------------ Would it be possible to install (optionally perhaps) third party modules like t-letter and t-simplefonts also? I would like to try to use Myriad Pro and using simplefonts seems to be the simplest solution for that (at least for me when reading through the wiki. I don't think that I am able to create typescripts, support files for TeX etc.). Or can I install these third party modules by myself in your "Context-2009-06-11-beta" tree (downloading first-setup.sh in your folder "/usr/local/context/2009-06-11-beta" failed for me, perhaps due to missing rights?)? Many thanks for working on such a nice installer package for such a simple users as me on the Mac. Best Regards Jörg

Cache path creation

Dear all, here's a thing that's puzzling me ... I set up the cache path in texmf/ web2c/texmfcnf.lua to point to a location which doesn't exist yet. Running luatools --generate now gives me different results with ConTeXt versions 2009.06.11 and 2009.06.13. The former one politely asks me whether it should generate the cache path while the latter version does not but moves straight on to business. Grepping through the source code I'm somehow unable to find out which part of the source is responsible for this change :-( Personally, I prefer the second behaviour anyway. This is because I adjusted texmfcnf.lua deliberately such that the cache data is dumped to the user's home directory. In particular, luatools --generate doesn't need admin rights so if for some reason it attempts to write to protected system areas this will be blocked anyway. So let's say I'm just curious ... Luatex 0.43.0 announcement

Hi, I have just uploaded the archives for a new luatex release, 0.43.0. New features: * There is a new allowed key in the table trhat is returned by lua-loaded fonts: <f>.psname. This value should be set to the original PostScript font name of the font. Fonts inside dfont and ttc collections are fetched using this field (if it is missing, <f>.fullname will be used instead). * It is now possible to use Apple dfont font files (those that contain at least one outline font). * \latelua is now allowed inside leaders. * There is a new callback: process_output_buffer, from Manuel Pégourié-Gonnard. This callback is called just before \write acts, so it can be used to alter the file encoding of text output files. * There is a new node.dimensions() function, which calculates the natural size of (part of) a list of nodes. * The new primitive \gleaders provides 'globally aligned' leaders. * The DVI and PDF backends now share much code internally. * The embedded MPlib is now 1.207. * libpng is now 1.2.39. Bugfixes: * We fixed lots of anonymous bugs introduced in 0.42.0 (as expected) * fontloader.info() errors are no longer fatal, the function now just returns a nil,"error string" pair. * Automatically inserted kerns for \accents are now once again valid word ends, as in \TEX. * Fixed the placement of math displays in mixed direction settings. * The \pdfcompresslevel is now dynamic again. A few questions

Hi Hans, here are a few questions which I want to ask since a few days. 1. texdefinition I like start/stoptexdefinition because it makes the source for certain macros more readable than \def allows me but is there a way to use it for macros without parameters? 2. commalists Together with texdefinition I use now start/stopprocesscommalist (feature request: I need also start/stopprocessassignmentlist) but I can use the list value without the need to define a command where I specify what should happen with it \startprocesscommalist[a,b,c,...] the current list value is #1\par \stopprocesscommalist but why is there not something equivalent for the normal processcommalist because the start/stop method is not the best method when you need nested lists, something like this would be nice then (I know \doprocesscommalist is already defined): \doprocesscommalist[a,b,c,...]% {\processcommalist[x,y,z,...]% {do something with #1 and ##1}} 3. setups The various start/stopsetups environments another nice feature but what's the correct method when I want my own setup environment, should I adapt the following line from core-env to my own command \def\startsetups {\xxstartsetups\plusone \stopsetups } \let \stopsetups \relax and use method from lxml-ini to access/flush the content? 4. Mixed assignment/comma lists Are mixed lists of normal comma elements and assignments are allowed by ConTeXt’s syntax because there is a command in the source (\processassignlist) to process the non assignment values from the list? On the other side these values generate a error message on the terminal where one can read there is a missing '=' in the element and this message can't be disabled (without hacks). Mac installation package

Dear all, I've finally got around to actually make the Mac installation package happen :-) So please find a test version of the package (for Intel Macs running Tiger or higher) at http://svn.contextgarden.net/minimals/installer/osx/ This package is identical to the Minimals distribution as of 2009.06.11 13:24 except for the following: 1. It only contains MkIV 2. Configuration files are adapted to Mac OS X 3. It doesn't contain scripts etc. needed for other platforms The installation experience should be rather pleasant, since you'll just have to double-click the installation package. After the installation is complete head over to "System Preferences > TeX Distribution" and you should find a new item called "ConTeXt 2009-06-11-beta" alongside "MacTeX 2008" etc. This means that by now you should be able to typeset your documents with a simple context myfile.tex in the Terminal. (TeXShop support is easy and will be included in the next revision.) For the more curious: the package installs its TDS to /usr/local/ context/2009-06-11-beta and sets up a per user cache at ~/.context/ 2009-06-11-beta. The directory for user additions is ~/Library/texmf and is shared with TeXLive. Fonts installed at the usual locations in Mac OS X should be recognized by ConTeXt as well. For the even more curious, there's also a readme file in the disk image ;-) I'd be glad if as many people as possible on this list would give it a try and report back their experience.
