Level 1 OFM Support

Dear Taco Hoekwater, In these days, I am trying to find a good way to use CJK characters with LuaTeX. At first, it looks somewhat trivial, but this topic is not trivial because of different typographical features of CJK countries. My first goal is to repeat the same thing what I had done with Omega. While I'm testing, I found that LuaTeX does not support the level 1 OFMs. Actually it is not hard to support the format in the point of DVI drivers' view. But it might not in the point of TeX's view. Anyway, I made a patch to support this format except for char_param (see \S95 entry of the ofm2opl manual, p.235) because I did not know how these parameters were used in LuaTeX. I tested a few sample OFM files of level 1. Especially I have cyberb.ofm (level 1) generated by ttf2tfm from Bitstream cyberbit.ttf. And, it was successful to get CJK characters in the DVI mode. It looks that LuaTeX does not support yet 16-bit characters in PDF mode. For CJK people, the first thing what we want is to support CJK characters in PDF mode without using subfont scheme (as CJK-LaTeX and Korean ko.TeX). The next thing is to support CJK typography. It may take quite long time to do it. I am preparing a topic for the first thing and I'd like to give a talk at this TUG conference for this topic. Because I am novice in LuaTeX, I hope the developers (I already met Hans and Hartmut) give me some helpful comment. Best regards, ChoF.

Assignments in Lua

Now, a few months and betas ago, assignments made inside Lua to tex.count et cetera were always global (see my posting on August 14th 2007 on this mailing list). Now it seems that they respect grouping. Is this meant to stay or is it an unintended side-effect of some other change? Looking into the source ('set_tex_count_register' in luatex.web), it seems that this change is deliberate. If it is a feature (which I'd be very grateful for, since it would simplify a lot of things), how do I perform \global assignments in Lua? As far as I can see from the source, I cannot pass an optional third parameter to tex.setcount: tex.setcount(<string|number> register, <number> value, <boolean> global) I would try my hand at a patch to implement this, but unfortunately, I cannot find the function prototype for set_tex_count_register. A sketch: - Modify <set_tex_count_register> et.al. so that 'a' is no longer a constant local variable, but a parameter. - In ltexlib.c, check for an optional boolean using <lua_toboolean>, then pass either zero (local/false) or four (global/true) as the third parameter to <set_tex_count_register> et.al. - Add a call to @<Adjust \(f)for the setting of \.{\\globaldefs}@> in <set_tex_count_register> et.al. so that \globaldefs works correctly. I'm not sure about the last point, though, since it would mean that TeX would influence Lua's behaviour. OTOH, adding that code would make Lua and TeX behave consistently. Another thing: Setting an attribute using tex.attribute does not seem to add the attribute to nodes, contrary to setting it in TeX. Most likely this is because in TeX, the attribute list cache is reset (luatex.web lines 28106f) and the number of the largest used attribute register is adjusted, which is not done in Lua (luatex.web lines 34646ff). Adding if (j)>max_used_attr then max_used_attr:=(j); attr_list_cache:=cache_disabled; in luatex.web in function 'set_tex_attribute_register' before line 34650 ('word_define(j+attribute_base,v);') fixes this (for both 'tex.setattribute(...)' and 'tex.attribute = ...'). And while we're at it: In luatex.wb line 27777, help1("I'll pretend you didn't say \long or \outer or \global."); should be help1("I'll pretend you didn't say \long or \outer or \global or \protected."); Jonathan

plain.tex with Latin Modern opentype fonts

Hi the latest luatex, when run with plain tex format with Latin Modern opentype fonts produces: segmentation fault, probably due to infinite macro recursion Backtracks from gdb prints: #0 0x00a75802 in free () from /lib/libc.so.6 #1 0x080d33a6 in undump_font (f=1) at ../../../../src/texk/web2c/luatexdir/font/texfont.c:1239 #2 0x0804bf5e in load_fmt_file () at luatexini.c:1240 #3 0x080546ed in main_body () at luatexini.c:2621 #4 0x080a7b76 in main (ac=3, av=0xbfc82864) at luatexextra.c:441 I run into segmentation fault after: 1. Looking for hyphens with Lua

Hi running the following file --- \lefthyphenmin=1 \righthyphenmin=1 \hyphenation{a-b} \showhyphens{ab} --- displays on the terminal all hyphens that plain LuaTeX finds in 'ab'. Hi All, Just to wrap this up: thanks everybody for their results, it has been useful. The luatex trunk now has support for os.uname(), also under Windows. Some people may find it interesting to see the outcome of this mini-survey.
