I cannot reproduce it (pdfTeX-1.30.0-rc1):

    7 0 obj <<
    /Type /Pages
    /Count 1
    /Kids [2 0 R]
    >> endobj

The /Pages dict and the backslash are present. (Of course the
lonely backslash is invalid PDF syntax here.)
