Some time ago I have made some experiments, see vpe (on CTAN).
It adds at macro level annotations to call an editor with the
corresponding file and line number.
  One of the problems was that AR/linux does not support commandline
parameters, thus vpe uses a helper script and the commandline options
(file name, line number) are encoded in the path specification
of the helper script.
