Hi Damien,

this might be a bug, since other options work fine, such as in:

    \starttext
    \startTEXpage[offset=1em]
    \startxtable
       \startxrow
          \startxcell A
          \stopxcell
          \startxcell[ny=2, background=color,
            backgroundcolor=blue, rightframe=off,
            align=lohi, foregroundcolor=yellow] B
          \stopxcell
       \stopxrow
       \startxrow
          \startxcell C
          \stopxcell
       \stopxrow
       \startxrow
          \startxcell 1
          \stopxcell
          \startxcell 2
          \stopxcell
       \stopxrow
       \startxrow
          \startxcell[nx=2, background=color,
            backgroundcolor=orange, bottomframe=off,
            align=center, foregroundcolor=gray] 3
          \stopxcell
       \stopxrow
    \stopxtable
    \stopTEXpage
    \stoptext

Happy New Year 2020 to all,

Pablo
