hmm.
I still get an error with this (ConTeXt  ver: 2016.11.24 12:05 MKIV beta)

\define\startTable{\startembeddedxtable}
\define\stopTable{\stopembeddedxtable}

\starttext
  \startTable
    \startxrow
      \startxcell hallo \stopxcell
    \stopxrow
  \stopTable
\stoptext
