\midaligned{* * *}?

Something similar is available with the facybreak module: 
http://bitbucket.org/wolfs/fancybreak/src/tip/files/


To let the reader know your letter/resume/etc. covers more than one page
you can number them in the form 'Page 1 of 2'.
