[NTG-context] XeTeX "hangs"

so, it looks like the `<char><char> is not seen as a combination 

how did the complete test file look?  what does  the following say: 

\bgroup
\let\unicodechar\unicodenumber
\catcode`�=\active \def�{^^F0}
\egroup
