Its a buggy message from web2c/s file opening paranoia. It should
have said:

   pdfetex: Not reading from ../type-exa (openin_any = p).

but someone messed up the message. IIRC, this is fixed in the TL
source tree already. It simply means that pdfetex has rejected
the file ../type-exa because openin_any is set to p[aranoid].
