Hi, the patch I uploaded still has some problems with auto prepending/appending kerns, so it is better to leave them out for the moment. Please include the above patch by Thanh which defines \pdfprependkern etc. I'm personally using the subfont mechanism in the patch to typeset Japanese. The patch is for 1.30.3. So some hand work will be needed.

I'm tempted to leave it in, as getting it in was quite some work -- and getting it out will probably be even more. Does it break any old features? If not, it can stay. We can always declare these features as experimental. Best Martin -- http://www.tm.oneiros.de
