Hi, when viewing english live.pdf from TeX Live 2007 inst 070123 by xpdf, i get quite a few of these: Error: font resource is not a dictionary Error: Unknown font tag 'F42' Error: font resource is not a dictionary Error: Unknown font tag 'F42' Error: font resource is not a dictionary Error: Unknown font tag 'F42' Error: Unknown font tag 'F42' No idea why. The object doesn't exists. Same is true for french/texlive-fr/live.pdf: 0000000612 00000 f Best Martin

If I recreate the files here with my non-TL installation, I get valid files. Best Martin

same with newest pdftex from said current tex live inst 20070123. It just means that live.pdf somehow hasn't been compiled properly (maybe a path problem). No pdftex issue. Just remaking live.pdf should repair this. Regards, Hartmut

Could it be that the pk inclusion is broken? I saw no math fonts at all in martin's dump, and that is a bit suspicious. Perhaps the "not a font" entries were lmsy10 et al? Taco

this could be also missing gsftopk triggering. Anyway, it's still interesting that pdftex doesn't quit in such a case, removing the faulty pdf file. There should be pdf_fail. Regards, Hartmut

Could indeed be math. The working file also has CMMI10, CMR10 and CMSY10, while these are absent in the broken one. But LOGO10 is there. Best Martin

I assume that the random number generator their software is based on will provide the number "42" occasionally. But this is nothing you can rely on.
