"We" ?  You are welcome to discuss only non-proprietary software if you wish.  Some of us live in the real world, where proprietary and non-proprietary tools and software happily co-exist, and where one is free to choose (and discuss) the best tool for the job, regardless of its proprietary/non-proprietary nature.

They are nothing but a distraction to what
TeXlive can and should provide.

Since this is not the TeX Live list, I fail to see the relevance of your remark.
