Re: [NTG-context] Re: clubpenalty/widowpenalty ignored - a bug?
Jesus Christ! Now it works!!
(Even without \brokenpenalty=0 )
Isn't that strange? TeX settings not in the preamble?
But hey, this gives us the very useful advantage (compared to LaTeX)
that we now can switch to different clubpenalty/widowpenalty values
right in the text.
And that's amazing - for in LaTeX you'd need to construct an
environment for changing the clubpenalty/widowpenalty values that are
set in the preamble!
Wonderful. Somebody should write this in a ConTeXt manual.

I may be wide off the mark--but I tried the reverse (allowing clubs and widows), and it didn't work until I inserted it AFTER /starttext. Maybe you can try that! Best Thomas

The ConTeXt way is: \setuptolerance [{horizontal, verytolerant},{vertical, verystrict}] scale: verytolerant, tolerant, strict, verystrict It's a bit more readable than penalties, but not as exact. I always use grid setting, and there's impossible to avoid *all* clubs and widows, so a 10000 penalty is of no help. I used the following in my last book: \clubpenalty=8000 % keine Schusterjungen \widowpenalty=8000 % keine Hurenkinder %\tolerance=1750 % Zeilenumbruch-Toleranz (ca. 500--3000) %\emergencystretch=10 pt % zus"atzlich ver"anderbarer Raum pro Zeile I used the emergency stretch (more white space) only in some paragraphs.
