A popular POD printer in the USA called LIghtning Source wants the finished page to be centered on an 8.5 x 11 sheet of paper in the pdf file submitted to them. This can be done with \definepapersze and \setuppapersize. However this technique shows cropmarks and Lighting Source specifies "no crop marks." Question 1: How do I eliminate cropmarks yet still have the smaller page centered on the larger page? Second, my customer pointed out to me that on my finished pdf the cropmarks do not exactly delineate the specific size (in this case 5.5 x 8.5 inches.) On my laser printer they define a space about 1/32 inch shorter than the nominal dimension in both vertical and horizontal directions. This is about 2 or 3 points. Question 2. Why are the cropmarks apparently imprecise? All hints appreciated, as always. -- John Culleton Able Indexers and Typesetters http://wexfordpress.com ____________________________________________________________ Free 20MB Web Site Hosting and Personalized E-mail Service! First question: \setuplayout[marking=no] or is it marking=off? One of the two. Second question: I have no idea. One possible thing which has arisen for me many times: assuming you are printing from Acrobat, are your print settings set to either enlarge or shrink pages? This is something I know I have gotten wrong more than once. Regards, Erik Hetzner

Correct. sometmes I forget what I did :-(
Second question: I have no idea. I ran tests with Context pdftex and plain TeX using a 6 inch horizontal rule and no other typography. They all came up about 3/64 inch short. In the plain TeX sample I used dvips and printed from the PS file. So it appears my printer shrinks a file by about 1% or thereabouts. My customer's printer must do the same. It is not a Context problem nor an Acrobat Reader problem.

\setuplayout[marking=on,location=middle]
Question 2. Why are the cropmarks apparently imprecise?
Don't know, this is a good question. It is not very much, but it is strange indeed. Patrick
