hello Taco, I did search the result of all the files. All the files are ok. except the MP-mpgraph.mpy and MP-mpgraph.1. The mpy shows only the %mpochecksum : 8298 rest are all blank. Iam also finding the error in MP-mpgraph.1 I am attaching the file. Try to run the command makempy MP-mpgraph.mpo manually. it will probably complain about missing pstoedit command (see Hans' reply to mojca for more details). Taco

Looks like it. The last line in the mpy file should have been: endgraphictextfig; not --cycle. Can you try this?
makempy --force --noclean MP-mpgraph.mpo
The last lines in the (now kept) mpy-MP-mpgraph.tmp should be --cycle; endfig; end If not, your pstoedit is broken. If yes, your makempy script is broken. Good luck, Taco

It seem that last pstoedit for linux is broken. I make MP.tex with my old-friend Context.2002--still_crazy_after_all_these_years--, and pstoedit 3.33 and no problems. luigi
Hello, I have problems with this graphic too. First I noticed that I don't have pstoedit installed on my computer. I downloaded version 3.40 from http://www.pstoedit.net/pstoedit. When I now run this MP code I get a Windows (xp) errormessage: Unhandled exception in pstoedit.exe (STDDRIVERS.DLL): 0xC0000005: Access Violation. But I get the graphic rendered. Any suggestions? hmm, try on ctan: ctan/support/pstoedit/windows It should be an older (3.31) but good version . luigi

I tried it out before reading that paragraph and I can approve: unless you have an ancient GS, it doesn't work at all. 3.40 at least does something even though it crashes. Mojca

Confirm : under linux MP.tex works with pstoedit 3.33 , gs 8.51 and even ESP Ghostscript 7.07; pstoedit 3.40 does not works correctly with gs 8.51 and 7.07 (Sorry Mojca, I was confused by numbers -- too much hot today -- ) luigi

I believe that the version 3.33 works, but I can't find it anywhere. Even 3.40 is difficult to download. Usually only some polite "bandwidth exceeded" message appears. I don't know if the development of the program is stil in progress, but they could switch to sourceforge. The version on CTAN is 3.31 - this is the one which doesn't work even for simple conversions outside ConTeXt. The paragraph I posted to the list was taken from "New or changed in 3.32". This means that version 3.31 can't cope with the old GS. pstoedit 3.40 seems to work as well. I can make conversions from postscript to metapost outside ConTeXt without any problem. Also the posted example with metafun trickery works somehow. It crashes the pstoedit program, but obviously pstoedit manages to produce the proper output before crashing. I sent a short email to the email mentioned on the webpage - I hope they will answer. Mojca

I got the following answer from the author of pstoedit:
Concerning your crash. I think this is related to the -ssp option - isn't it? Does the crash still happen without -ssp? Anyway - you could compile the source code yourself, e.g. under cygwin and simply apply the following patch.
--- drvbase.cpp.orig 2005-06-23 09:52:08.000000000 +1000 +++ drvbase.cpp 2005-06-23 09:53:10.000000000 +1000 @@ -843,7 +843,7 @@ if (verbose) errf << "dumping subpath from " << starti << " to " << end << endl; outputPath->subpathoffset = starti; - outputPath->numberOfElementsInPath = end - start; + outputPath->numberOfElementsInPath = end - + starti; show_path(); // from start to end } starti = end;
Best Regards
Wolfgang
In [MikTeX]/scripts/context/perl/makempy.pl I removed -ssp [simulate subpaths] from the following two routines: sub make_mp_pictures_ps { process ("metapost file") ; run ($tmpfile, "$pstoedit", "-ssp -dt -f mpost $posfile $tmpfile") } sub make_mp_pictures_pdf { process ("metapost file") ; run ($tmpfile, "$pstoedit", "-ssp -dt -f mpost $pdffile $tmpfile") } pstoedit now doesn't crash any more, but 'P' or 'O' for example don't have "holes" any more. I'll try to reinstall my cygwin or to compile the source of pstoedit on Linux later. If I understood correctly than this patch should solve the problem and -ssp should work again. Besides that, pstoedit will move to sourceforge, so it will hopefully soon be possible to download it more easily than it is now :) Mojca
