Troubleshooting pdf bookmarks
Hello all, I've got a problem with pdf bookmarks and I don't know how to troubleshoot it. I first made a test file in a test folder with all the correct components and it ("bookmark_test") works perfectly with all the enviroment files and component files. However, when I copied the working product file to the product folder ("prd-serv"), fixed the links and ran ConTeXt, I didn't get bookmarks. Reference links show up in TOC and text, so there's some kind of interactivity, but no bookmarks. I've tried to figure out from logs (attached) what eats my bookmarks in the product folder, but without much success. I've also tried excluding components and environment files in different combinations, but that doesn't seem to help, so I haven't been able to isolate the cause of the problem. Are there some commands that can be used to troubleshoot interactivity/pdf bookmarks? \tracesomething, maybe? Best Regards, Mari

Hi Mari, did you check you have \setupinteraction[state=start] \setupinteractionscreen[option=bookmark] % should not be necessary \placebookmarks[chapter,section,subsection][chapter,section] No trailing commas missing? Just to make sure - I mostly overlook the most stupid mistakes... There was \tracebookmarks only in MkII. Maybe look through http://source.contextgarden.net/tex/context/base/mkiv/strc-bkm.mkiv (I didn’t find anything helpful though). Not possible - both files use the same environment file where the above has been specified. If the problem was there, neither would work. However, the mystery deepens: I opened the not-working file in Acrobat Reader and it actually does have working bookmarks - of some reason SumatraPDF doesn't show them, but they are there. As most of my customers are likely to use Acrobat Reader, I'm not really worried about the bookmarks not showing up in other readers. Why SumatraPDF shows bookmarks in test environment, but not in the proper one is an enigma, but I'm no longer worried about it. Problem solved, at least close enough. Mari

Hi Mari, would it be possible that you provide us with a (minimal, if possible) sample of a PDF document with not-working bookmarks for Sumatra.

Does the latest version of MuPDF show the bookmarks? Just in case it helps, Pablo -- http://www.ousia.tk

mupdf shows bookmarks? Because we are on the subject of PDF readers, I wish to point out to Mac OS X users that PDFkit, the Apple rendering library, was *seriously broken* in "Sierra" (OSX 10.12), perhaps before. This library is used by preview as well as skim and perhaps other pdf readers. The broken library seems to be fixed, at least somewhat, in the new version of "High Sierra" (OSX 10.13), making these Mac OS X readers usable (and bookmarks work)! Alan P.S. If bookmarks are broken with SumatraPDF, then we have even less of a chance in getting Hans' support.

MuPDF-1.11 displays bookmarks (see attached image). This is the GL version, I don’t know how to do that in the X11 version (I don’t even know if the feature is available in the X11 version).

If we have a sample PDF document, we may know what is broken there: the viewer reading the bookmarks or the PDF document containing them. Pablo -- http://www.ousia.tk

Unfortunately, the GL version is broken on ALL of my platforms. Alan

I have glfw-3.2.1 in my Fedora 25 machine and it works fine. Just in case it might help, Pablo -- http://www.ousia.tk
