Hi all, does anyone know whether LuaTeX will be part of TeX Live 2008? If I browse the SVN correctly, it currently contains a 1 year old ConTeXt, checked in by Taco, and no LuaTeX. It would be great if at least an up-to-date ConTeXt and possible LuaTeX could be included. (Esp. since several Linux distributions have their TeX based on TeX Live and are reluctant to create extra packages.) Tobias

Context on texlive is updated once a year. It is a somewhat elaborate process because texlive wants some stuff removed from the distribution and quite some other stuff has to be relocated. I prefer not to do that except when it is absolutely necessary. The next texlive will normally have the latest stable context from the week before the code freeze. There definately be a luatex executable included as well, but it will be more for the benefit of having texlua as a scripting engine, than for proper typesetting. Best wishes, Taco

As long as the update does not miss the deadline I am fine with having one update per year. Thanks!

Why? Because TeXLive is setup such that ConTeXt still uses pdfetex and because luatex is beta -- or because some files are missing? Tobias

the tex live folks are always very considerate with our last minute fixes and such, don't worry

good question .. at some point we will change from pdftex to luatex as default, maybe eurotex 2009 is a good moment Hans ----------------------------------------------------------------- Hans Hagen | PRAGMA ADE Ridderstraat 27 | 8061 GH Hasselt | The Netherlands tel: 038 477 53 69 | fax: 038 477 53 74 | www.pragma-ade.com | www.pragma-pod.nl -----------------------------------------------------------------
