The problem goes away if I comment out the lines 2053 and 2054 of tex.rb. I suspect that Kpse.runscript('ctxtools',rawbase,'--purge') if getvariable('purge') doesn't call the ctxtools script with proper quoting, so arguments are interpreted as commands instead of being just arguments.
