\sectionmark ? § (167, 0x00A7) in mkiv there should be no need to use a macro. you can type it in (more or less) directly. i use babelmap on windows to get the correct char/code. http://www.babelstone.co.uk/Software/BabelMap.html there are probably similar programs for other os...
