Anyone using dvipdfmx in minimals?
Dear ConTeXt-ers, I'm trying to remember why we are shipping dvipdfmx in ConTeXt: was it because of Aleph or because of Eastern scripts? I'm not sure if it is still used or not. I know that it is pretty important in eastern scripts and as a basis for xdvipdfmx, but I don't know to what extent ConTeXt supports it and to what extent ConTeXt users are using it if at all. I would only like to know the situation. If people use it, it is no problem to keep it, but I would at least like to have a rough idea of its usefulness and usage in ConTeXt. (The dvips program will probably also be removed; I suspect that it doesn't work at the moment anyway.) Mojca

No, many confuse those, but XeTeX is using xdvipdfmx which is largely based on dvipdfmx, but it is not the same binary. (But since Jonathan is not developing it any more, it would probably make a lot of sense if the developer of dvipdfmx would take over also the development of xdvipdfmx ... or even merge the two. dvipdfm has already been removed from TL and replaced by dvipdfmx.) I have found http://project.ktug.or.kr/dvipdfmx/#sec-examples ConTeXt examples of usage of dvipdfmx. What I'm not sure about is if minimals provide enough files to properly support dvipdfmx at all. Mojca

it does, and actually it's support for the older dvipdfm that is obsolete; so mkii supports: pdf(tex), acrobat, dvips, dvipdfmx Hans ----------------------------------------------------------------- Hans Hagen | PRAGMA ADE Ridderstraat 27 | 8061 GH Hasselt | The Netherlands tel: 038 477 53 69 | voip: 087 875 68 74 | www.pragma-ade.com | www.pragma-pod.nl -----------------------------------------------------------------
Dear Mojca,

Aleph is no more supported as a ConTeXt engine because it is not etex-2.* compatible. Therefore you can remove dvipdfmx from the minimals. Thanks, Akira
