The company that is printing my book requires format PDF/X-1a:2001. The file produced by LuaTex is PDF 1.5. I wonder if there will be a problem, and if so, how can I do the conversion to X-1a:2001? thank you Ciro

I wonder if there will be a problem, and if so, how can I do the conversion to X-1a:2001? It's a complex subject, I fear that you need acrobat to be sure or defend your result

Context should be able to produce PDF/X-1a:2003 so far (donno the difference to the 2001 version). I will look into it tomorrow (no time now). To give you a first impression what is needed (data, formats), I attached a test file (mkiv only) for the 2003 variant. Best wishes, Peter
Peter, thank you for you file.
I tested it, but the \usePDFXoutputintent
command is not understood by texexec.
thank you

true. the example code is mkiv only. as mkii is frozen (no new features) pdf/x support is limited to mkiv. you also wrote 'The file produced by LuaTex is PDF 1.5.', so where is the problem? ;) mkii (pdftex): texexec yourbook.tex mkiv (luatex): context yourbook.tex anyhow, here is an interesting link about pdf/x-1a http://www.prepressure.com/pdf/basics/pdfx-1a there a quite a lot of other restrictions in pdf/x-1a (aside from what can be handled in context). be sure to fulfil them all. and you have to ask your printing house, what output intent is used (probably stated on their side). updated test files (now one for each version) are attached.
thank you ciro

I just installed ConTeXt minimals, but my fonts are not found now: "define fonts > font with name Barnard-Oblique is not found" font files are there, but some how context can't see them. I ran "context --generate" and got lines like this: MTXrun | resolvers: not saving runtime tree 'tree:////home/ciro/context/tex/texmf-fonts' MTXrun | resolvers: not saving runtime tree 'tree:////home/ciro/context/tex/texmf-local' MTXrun | resolvers: not saving runtime tree 'tree:////home/ciro/context/tex/texmf-linux' MTXrun | resolvers: not saving runtime tree 'tree:////home/ciro/context/tex/texmf-context and also ran "mtxrun --script fonts --reload" and got lines like this: MTXrun | fontnames: scanning /home/ciro/context/tex/texmf for AFM files MTXrun | fontnames: 3323 entries found, 0 AFM files checked, 0 okay MTXrun | fontnames: globbing path /home/ciro/.fonts/**.ttf MTXrun | fontnames: identifying system font files with suffix TTF MTXrun | fontnames: globbing path /home/ciro/.fonts/**.TTF MTXrun | fontnames: 639 system files identified, 39 skipped, 39 duplicates, 600 hash entries added what should I do? thank you Ciro

what should I do?
1. Change the subject of the thread. 2. Tell us where you put the fonts. 3. Show us a test document and your typescripts. Wolfgang
I found open source pstill to do conversions between pdf versions...
It seems to work fine.

thank you for your help
