Dear magicians, I just updated to the latest betas (ConTeXt and LuaTeX taken on svn://scm.foundry.supelec.fr/svn/luatex and I tried to build luatex on my machine (MacBook Pro under Mac OS X 10.5.4): everything goes fine, the binary is there, that is in trunk/build/texk/web2c/luatex but trying to make the formats (as I did usually thanks to the directives given by Thomas Schmitz), I get an error message saying this: ! Emergency stop. \lastexpanded ->\endtemplate \global \everyloadluacode {} \ctxluabyteload ..."#2" } \stopruntimectxluacode } \ctxlua { lua.bytedata[\th... \registerctxluafile ...se \ctxluabyteload {#1}{#2} \fi \global \everyloadluac... l.165 \registerctxluafile{luat-env}{1.001} mkiv lua stats : used config path - /usr/local/texlive/2007/texmf/ web2c/texmf.cnf mkiv lua stats : used cache path - /tmp mkiv lua stats : input load time - 0.067 seconds mkiv lua stats : current memory usage - 6144468 bytes mkiv lua stats : node memory usage - 18 glue_spec, 1 if_stack, 1 dir However ConTeXt mkii works fine. Since I don't use yet extensively mkiv, I am just reporting the issue to inform the community. With my best regards: OK

Thanks, for the heads up. The luatex trunk is a bit in flux at the moment. We are trying to squeeze the previous half year of pdftex and texlive development into it, and it takes some effort. Best wishes, Taco

For the repository users of luatex: The trunk seems to be compiling and running again. Best wishes, Taco

good news :) will test asap. aside from one problem with png transparency (when the pdf is included, the picture shows the wrong background color) the luatex trunk (12-07-2008) works fine here. best wishes, peter
Best wishes, Taco

(if you know how) can you try the same thing with pdftex 1.40.3 vs. 1.40.8 as well? There was a bugfix in pdftex 1.40.6 for Transparant images cf. this bug report: http://sarovar.org/tracker/index.php?func=detail&aid=896&group_id=106&atid=493 and it is possible that it has side-effects. (if you don't know how) maybe you can send me the file(s)? Best wishes, Taco

sure. if someone can point me to the windows binaries of pdftex 1.40.3 i can test that. just some additional infos: i have the following (different) versions of the included example pdf: producer included by pdftex 1.40.9-rc1 ----------------------------------------------------- luatex 0.22.2 ok luatex 0.26 bug luatex 0.28 bug pdftex 1.40.9-rc1 bug so it looks like pdftex is the source of the problem :)
(if you don't know how) maybe you can send me the file(s)?
sorry, not an option. but i can send you the 'broken' pdf (>400k), so that you get an impression what i mean. i can also try to make a minimal, but if it doesn't show up under simplified conditions, there is not much that i can do. best wishes, peter

Try http://www.tug.org/svn/texlive/trunk/Master/texmf/web2c/?sortdir=down&pathrev=5403 (if that's the revision you wanted) Or simply http://www.tug.org/svn/texlive/trunk/Master/texmf/web2c/pdftex.pool?view=log&sortdir=down&pathrev=8713 Mojca

thanks Mojca. i found a pool that worked. the results (don't continue to read if you want a happy end): pdftex 1.40.3 produces a pdf, that shows no side effects when it's included by the same version of pdftex (1.40.3). if i include that pdf with the current 1.40.9-rc1 i get the wrong color in the transparent area. mh, who to blame? the producer or the collector? as mentioned: i have an old version of that example pdf (made with luatex 0.22) that works ok with the rc1. i'm puzzled.
(if you don't know how) maybe you can send me the file(s)?

mh, just made a 'minimal' example and it looks like this bug is not related to png transparency. this wasn't visible in my real world example (only transparent areas of the png were affected). looks more like a mess of layer priorities to me (just guessing). context example attached (inclusion.tex is the main file, testpdf.tex is the source for the included pdf). so before i file a bug report, can someone confirm this? i used pdftex 1.40.9-rc1 for this test. cheers, peter

made some more tests. it's related to png transparency. without any transparency there are no problems.

I don't see any difference with the latest pdftex and with the one provided in TeX Live 2007. But I do see a difference when adding \setupcolors[state=start] to testpdf.tex. In that case it works, though I have no idea what "no color enabled" means to ConTeXt - it usually uses black for just about anything except white. I would not wonder if ConTeXt "forgot" to fill the background with white, but it's hard to tell. Mojca

:) you are right. i should have better used a color (green was on my mind) instead of white. and yes, context "forgot" to fill the background with white. so now we have a context cavity but no minimal example any more. unsatisfying. anyway, thanks mojca for testing.
