Hello, what is the recommended way to get the following: as is written in Ref.~4. Using Ref.~\cite[four] gives "Ref. [4]" with the superfluous brackets. (\cite[ref] should remain unmodified, ie with brackets, as this is mostly used in texts [1-5,7].) APS' revtex offers \onlinecite (Ref.~\onlinecite{four}) to obtain the reference number without the brackets. Tobias

\def\onlinecite#1{\cite[left=,right=][#1]} But are you sure the macro should not be called \inlinecite ? Cheers, Taco

I'm not sure how it should be called, however, in APS' RevTeX it is called \onlinecite (as the number is not a superscript but on the line). (Thanks for the reminder to use \cite[left=...][]. I was thinking only of \setupcite[num][left=...]; now wikified) Tobias
