Dear gang, especially Wolf-gang ;-) The annotation module seems to cancel indentation, so the paragraph after a note starts with no indentation. Regular inmargin etc does not have this problem: ============================= \usemodule[annotation] \define[2]\MymarginCommand {\inoutermargin[scope=local]{#2}} \setupindenting[medium,next,yes] \defineannotation [mymargin] [alternative=command, % display=yes, command=\MymarginCommand, indentnext=yes] \starttext \dorecurse{2}{This is a test of the annotation module and the indenting mechanism} \mymargin{This is a test of the annotation module and the indenting mechanism} \dorecurse{2}{This is a test of the annotation module and the indenting mechanism} \dorecurse{4}{This is a test of the annotation module and the indenting mechanism} \dorecurse{2}{This is a test of the annotation module and the indenting mechanism} \mymargin{This is a test of the annotation module and the indenting mechanism} \dorecurse{2}{This is a test of the annotation module and the indenting mechanism} \dorecurse{4}{This is a test of the annotation module and the indenting mechanism} \dorecurse{2}{This is a test of the annotation module and the indenting mechanism} \inmargin{This is a test of the annotation module and the indenting mechanism} \dorecurse{2}{This is a test of the annotation module and the indenting mechanism} \dorecurse{4}{This is a test of the annotation module and the indenting mechanism} \dorecurse{2}{This is a test of the annotation module and the indenting mechanism} \inmargin{This is a test of the annotation module and the indenting mechanism} \dorecurse{2}{This is a test of the annotation module and the indenting mechanism} \dorecurse{4}{This is a test of the annotation module and the indenting mechanism} \stoptext ============================= The display=yes option brings back the indentation, but it creates another problem: whitespace. More precisely, The annotation module seems to cancel indentation, so the paragraph after a paragraph that contains a note starts with no indentation. Fixed.
The display=yes option brings back the indentation, but it creates another problem: whitespace.
This is the purpose if the display option, it should either end the paragraph or add a vertical skip which can be set with space before/spaceafter. Wolfgang

Testing from home seems to work, I may have unzipped the files incorrectly... My apologies. Still, we should not get a luatex error even in the case of a missing file, just a tex error, so there may be something going on here anyway... THANK YOU, Wolfgang and Hans, for all your help and advice!
