Hello, is this my strange setup or is this a general problem? If I TeX this \subsection{Derivation of $n_\sigma$ and $D_\sigma$} \bye both n and D are \rm instead of italic. I know that it worked once. Tobias

it still does ... add \bigmath before \starttext (or: use \chardef\synchronizebigmathflag=2) it's a kind of speedup to have it disabled, of course you can add it to your local copy of cont-sys.tex -) Hans
