best make a copy of your tex directory and install in there (btw, why is a new luametatex bin needed? are you sure the rest of context is in sync? e.g. Some internal (lua) keys were normalized recently.)
So all I need to do is replace the luametatex binay (dl from the build server - debian9 build)? I also notice the luatex binary - I just leave it as is? luatex is the same fr a while already
