ConTeXt is under development, so IMHO there is no "stable" version. If you need it you have to live with it, no choice :-)
Maybe ConTeXt minimal (http://wiki.contextgarden.net/ConTeXt_Minimals) ? ConTeXt mkii is *stable* ConTeXt mkiv is under very active development, so it's unstable --- but usable.
Both come with minimals. -- luigi
