      Hi there,

it's because you're trying to place subtitles only.

Try it with main tile chapter before your section, then you'll see yourself:

\starttext
   \placecontent

   \startbodymatter
     \section{Sec1}
       In sec 1
   \stopbodymatter

   \startappendices
     %\definestructureconversionset[T][][A]
     %\setupheads[sectionconversionset=T]

     \chapter{ChapB}
       In chap B
       \section{SecA}
       In sec A
   \stopappendices

\stoptext
