I installed ConTexT using the TeXLive distribution, and then build ConTeXt inside of that by unzipping the standard ConTeXt package.
in your context distribution, locate cont-usr.tex (or rme) and change the ushyp* name mentioned there to hyphen; otherwise copy hyphen.tex to ushyph1.tex and/or ushyph2.tex
(the latest context ships with a version of ctxtools that generates generic pattern files using the context naming scheme; see website for documentation)
