Hi guys,
I read in various places that the pace of development is fast. I don't get a clue of what that means.
See http://wiki.contextgarden.net/Release_Notes.
As far as I know LaTeX hasn't been updated for over 3 years. So how fast is conTeXt being developed? The conTeXt manual dated 2001 since pretty old to me. Am I right?
LaTeX has (almost) nothing to do with ConTeXt, but even LaTeX packages are updated every now and then. Hans is coding so fast that he doesn't have enough time to document everything ;) Sure, the manual is somehow outdated: many new features are not yet described there (perhaps in some other manual, on wiki, on the mailing list archive, in the source or nowhere yet), but the manual is still very useful - since ConTeXt is backward compatible and the most important functionality was already there at that time, you can safely use it.
