The project I am currently working on works perfectly. The main file contains a series of FLOWcharts and is built with the \startfrontmatter cum suis. So no pdfetex error and no empty page.

IMO, patching files here and there by the user is okay for small problems. This problem seems to me a bit more problematic, so, could you please make a bugfix release.
