Thanks for your reply. I used the typescript you provided but still get the error as below

Math error: parameter 'supshiftup' with id 51 in style 2 is not set

OK. I see the link to google fonts above. I am not sure they have the latest version. There were lots of fixes in this font recently (in particular I think a math table was added, so that the font really is identified as a math font, but I might be wrong about that). The one I used was downloaded from

https://github.com/notofonts/math/releases/tag/NotoSansMath-v2.539

and that still seems to be the latest. I now compiled my file again, and still no error here. Wondering. I didn't check but why start with a sans math and not a serif ... are the sans alphabets replaced by a serif?
