The reason I am looking at Asymptote and pstricks is because they have libraries or functionality which Metapost lacks. For example, the tree drawing library in pstricks. Google for "metapost tree", and you'll find at least this: http://www.isi.edu/~chiang/software/texmf/texmf.html

Don't know it it works, I don't use MetaPost myself.
