There is a minor issue, probably caused by the fact that the font already has italics. \usemodule[simplefonts] \definefontfeature[fakeslanted][default][slant=.35] \setmainfont[TeX Gyre Pagella][slantedfeatures=fakeslanted] \starttext {\sl slanted font} slanted font \stoptext I wanted the roman font to be slanted, not the italic one (which is the one that gets slanted).
