      Hans,

thanks for your reply. I works with your minimal example, but not with 
my file. When I try this

\setuptabulate[|w(.3\textwidth)|p|]

\starttabulate

\NC arrghl \NC barrghl \NC \NR \TB

\stoptabulate

I get this error:

check          : missing or ungrouped '=' after '|w(.3\tekstbreedte
