Is there any update on this? This bug breaks the visualcounter module.
I am including a smaller minimal example:
\defineMPinstance
  [important]
  [metafun]
  [textcolor=red]
\starttext
\startMPcode{important}
  draw textext("Am I red?") ;
\stopMPcode
\stoptext
It fails also with the default instance:
\setupMPinstance
   [textcolor=red,
    textstyle=bold]
\starttext
\startMPcode
  draw textext("Am I red?") ;
\stopMPcode
\stoptext
fixed
