Well, AucTeX does recognize a LaTeX file from a ConTeXt file; no need for that!
It seems to me, only if there is a "\starttext" in the file. For files without "\starttext" you can put these lines at the end: %%% Local Variables: %%% mode: context %%% End: I don't need that no more, since I use '(TeX-default-mode (quote context-mode)) Cheers, Peter -- http://pmrb.free.fr/contact/
