No, you're right, only ASCII works...

Here another try, that seems to work even with accented chars (but I do *not* understand, what I do... ;) :

texnansi-raw-ugmm8a GaramondNo8-Med "TeXnANSIEncoding ReEncodeFont"

I'm curious: how did you figure this out? Where does the "TeXnANSIEncoding ReEncodeFont" syntax come from? (Just trying to learn...)
