I still don't get any dingbats in my PDF output, but it feels like progress is being made...
Please read this message:

\starttypescript [sans][dingbats][name] \definefontsynonym [Sans][name:dingbatsnormal] \stoptypescript \definetypeface [dingbats][ss][sans][dingbats][default] \starttext Here's a dingbat: {\dingbats ✪ \char"272a} \stoptext
As I wrote in that message, the ghostscript dingbats will not be in the actual unicode locations because the Type1 font does not carry enough information for the reencoding to work.
Indeed and I was somewhat puzzled by this topic coming up again. Now, as the gs dingbats seem to have the same names as the official ones (some weird numbering scheme) i added a reencoding vector (if the gs files had been different I'd not done that). The next beta will provide \starttext % predefined: \definefontfeature[dingbats][goodies=dingbats,unicoding=yes] Star: {\definedfont[d050000l*dingbats]✪ \char"272a}\par Star: {\definedfont[d050000l:goodies=dingbats,unicoding=yes]✪ \char"272a} \stoptext It's up to Mathew to check each entry in dingbats.lfg ... (I've put it in the distribution but will remove it when it is incorrect).
