Thanks - see my first post for a link to a web folder where you can find the .tex file, the .pdf context produces, two screenshots of the differing image treatment and two of the image files shown in the screenshots. That does suggest it might be something in the image metadata, too. Is the image file something you can share? If so, perhaps you could share it on the list as an attachment (this mailing list allows attachments), so we could have a go at getting it to work ourselves.
